The Winter Session, 2006 of Parliament which commenced on Wednesday, the 22nd of November, 2006, is concluding today, the 19th of December, 2006. The Session provided 20 sittings of both the Houses of Parliament spread over a period of 28 days.
2. During the Session, an Adjournment Motion moved on 29.11.2006 by the Leader of Opposition, on “the failure of the Government to maintain internal security and in particular to deal with alarming growth of terrorist menace in the country” was discussed in the Lok Sabha and negatived.
3. Financial Business transacted consists of the Demands for Excess Grants (General) and (Railways) for 2004-05 and the Supplementary Demands for Grants (General) and (Railways) for 2006-07. Their related Appropriation Bills were introduced, discussed and passed by the Lok Sabha during the Session. Thereafter, the Rajya Sabha considered and returned these Appropriation Bills.
4. One Bill replacing an Ordinance, namely, the Indian Telegraph (Amendment) Ordinance, 2006 (No.3 of 2006), which was promulgated by the President, was considered and passed by both the Houses during the Session.
5. During the Session, 19 Bills (15 Bills in Lok Sabha and 4 Bills in Rajya Sabha) were introduced. Lok Sabha passed 20 Bills and Rajya Sabha passed 19 Bills during this period. Total number of Bills passed by both the Houses of Parliament during the Session is 20. One Bill, namely, the Securities Contracts (Regulation) Amendment Bill, 2005 was withdrawn in Lok Sabha.
